All roads lead to Energo: the annual Alumni Day was held at Energo University

On May 26, the annual Alumni Day was traditionally held at the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeyev (Energo University), which brought together several hundred graduates from different years.

The solemn event was attended by such outstanding graduates of the university as deputy of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bekbolat Orynbekov (1979 graduate), Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees of AUPET Serik Tyutebayev (1981 graduate), Chairman of the Kazakhstan Branch Trade Union of Power Engineers Orazbek Bekbas (1977 graduate), as well as a well-known scientist, advisor to the Rector for strategic development Serikbek Daukey.

Rector of the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications Gani Nygymetov presented a new vision for the development of the university. The changes designed to make Energo University the leading energy university in Central Asia will affect all areas of activity. Academic standards will be raised. This is planned to be achieved through the introduction of in-demand double-degree educational programs with leading universities and research centers in Europe, the USA, and China and the opening of branches of a number of world universities and research laboratories of world-renowned companies. The first step in this direction was the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Moscow Power Engineering Institute on training personnel for the energy industry.

«Next year, the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its foundation. Preserving traditions, relying on the experience of our predecessors, we must multiply successes and transform the university into a modern scientific and educational hub, make it a comfortable, attractive place for obtaining high-quality knowledge, » Gani Nygymetov stressed.

The rector noted that in the very near future, work will begin on the renovation of the university buildings and the adjacent territory – they should become an open, modern, aesthetic and comfortable space that will harmoniously fit into the urban environment and become a place of attraction for Almaty residents. Gani Nygymetov also spoke about plans to build a new high-tech university building.

The event was not limited to the ceremonial part. As part of Alumni Day, graduates were able to enjoy communicating with each other, recalling the carefree student years and discussing current and future projects as part of their work. The guests were also given the opportunity to get acquainted with the scientific developments of students and scientists of the university, visit laboratories and classrooms. Alumni Day at AUPET once again demonstrated the strong bond between the university and its graduates, as well as their desire and willingness to support their native university.
