By the decision of the Board of Directors of the Non-profit Joint Stock Company "Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications named after Gumarbek Daukeev" Gani Nygymetov was appointed the new rector of the university.
"The new leadership has set ambitious tasks to transform the university into a leading technical university in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian region by strengthening its research potential, developing new academic programs together with international partners, attracting the best professors, as well as leading industry companies to cooperate," - the University's press service reported.
It should be noted that the Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications was founded in 1975 by separating the energy faculty from the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute into an independent University. Today, AUPET provides training in the field of Heat and power engineering, Telecommunications, IT technologies, and Space engineering. The University trains specialists in college, bachelor's, master's and PhD programs.
Gani Nygymetov was born in 1983 in Aktobe region. He graduated from L.Gumilev Eurasian National University (specialist in international relations), the Monterey Institute of International Studies in the USA (Master of Public Administration), as well as the Graduate School of Business of Nazarbayev University (Master of Business Administration). He took advanced training courses for managers at the Kennedy School of Management at Harvard University, the National University of Singapore.
He started his career as an intern at the headquarters of the United Nations Development Program in New York.
In 2007-2009 - Project Manager of the Department of Public Administration of JSC "National Analytical Center under the Government and the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan".
In 2010-2013 - Director of the Department of International Cooperation of Nazarbayev University, Deputy Director General of the Center for Energy Research of Nazarbayev University.
From 2013 to 2016 - President of JSC "Center for International Programs" of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2016-2018, he worked as Executive Director of the Center for Strategic Initiatives LLP, Director of the Institute of Eurasian Integration LLP.
From 2018 to May 2020 — Deputy Head, Head of the Department of Internal Policy of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2020-2022, he held the position of Deputy akim of the North Kazakhstan region.
In 2022, he was appointed State Inspector of the Presidential Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Since January 2023, he has worked as Deputy Chief of Staff of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
