The first-ever hackathon in Kazakhstan for future specialists in power engineering automation was held at Energo University. The event was organized by "APS GROUP ENGINEERING" and its partners – "Central Asia Smart Projects", "ALMAENERGY", "APS", and "STD-Building". Together, they developed the project and provided the necessary equipment for students. The hackathon was dedicated to the Year of Working Professions and the 50th anniversary of Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications.
Four teams participated in the competition: Energo University and Satbayev University from Almaty, A. Saginov KarTU from Karaganda, and Toraighyrov University from Pavlodar. The students tackled complex tasks using real equipment. On a stand that simulated a typical modern substation scheme, teams had six hours to complete the entire process, from equipment installation to system launch. The participants had hands-on experience working as engineers and IT specialists. They connected and configured meters and measuring instruments, collected data from devices, and transmitted it to the central energy company's server.
Energo University's "Energo A&C" (Bekzat Tanataruly, Zhanserik Karasai, Akylbek Serikovich and Abylaikhan Korabay with their supervisors Asemai Kuanyshbaeva) team completed the installation process the fastest and claimed first place. Second place went to "STU automation" from A. Saginov KarTU, while third place was secured by "Demo SCADA" from Satbayev University. The fourth-place team was "Power Automators" from Toraighyrov University.
All teams successfully completed the assigned tasks, and the winners and runners-up received cash prizes and gifts. Congratulations to the Energo University team on their well-deserved win! Wishing them even greater success ahead!
