In honor of International Earth Day and within the framework of the republican campaign "Taza Kazakhstan", Energo University hosted the first Ecofest in the history of the university, which brought together students, teachers and guests who are not indifferent to issues of sustainable development and caring for the planet. The event was organized by the Department of Student Affairs with the support of the Departments of Thermal Power Engineering and Physics and Power Supply and Renewable Energy Sources.
Within the framework of the festival, thematic locations were organized: a wastepaper collection point (more than 1 ton of paper was collected!), a charity fair from the New Chance animal shelter, as well as psychological consultations from university psychologists to form an eco-friendly mindset.
A graduate of our university, eco-trainer Vera Denisenko, gave a master class on “Waste sorting and recycling: how to start right now?”. The participants learned how to properly sort waste, which types of plastic are recyclable, and which are not, and why batteries should not be thrown into regular garbage.
Alexander Te, who represents Kunjaryq, an alternative power supply company founded by Galymzhan Sharip, a graduate of our university, spoke about how to start an eco-friendly business project. The speaker shared his inspiring experience of creating a startup in the field of sustainable technologies and talked about the advantages of using solar panels in everyday life and business.
Zhuldyz Saulebekova, head of the public environmental organization Almaty Air Initiative, presented a detailed study on air pollution in Almaty, describing the main causes of this problem and ways to combat them.
Andrey Kibarin, Professor of the Department of Thermal Power Engineering and Physics, gave an interesting lecture on the clean energy of the atom, dispelling many of the disadvantages and fears related to nuclear energy.
Kirill Demchuk, one of the organizers of the EcoFest at Energo University, noted that this format of the event not only helps to raise awareness among students about environmental issues, but also motivates them to develop a conscious ecological culture in the future.
