Candidate of Technical Sciences, Professor. Born on July 31, 1948, in Semipalatinsk. Graduated from the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute named after Lenin in 1971. Over the years, he worked as chairman of the trade union committee of the Almaty Energy Institute, head of the NTP department of the Management of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and led the apparatus of the Higher Council for Science and Technology under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Since April 1997, he served as rector of the Almaty Institute of Energy and Communications. He was awarded the medals "For Labor Valor" and "10 Years of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan". Author of over 50 scientific publications, he held five patents and authorship certificates.
Labor path
From 1982 to 1987, he served as the chairman of the trade union committee of the Almaty Energy Institute (AEI).
From 1989 to 1994, he worked as the secretary of the party committee and vice-rector of AEI.
In 1996–1997, he held the position of director of the Educational and Research Complex of Energy and Telecommunications. At that time, AEI was part of KazNTU.
Gumarbek Zhusupbekovich managed to restore the institute’s independence, and from April 1997 to 2014, he served as the rector of the Almaty Institute of Power Engineering and Telecommunications. Under his leadership, the institute attained university status with the right to offer doctoral programs.
